Hamilton Farmers’ Market Soundwalks with Andra McCartney
Fri Feb 22nd – 3pm and Sat Feb 23rd -10:30 am Soundwalks with Andra McCartney will take place around the Hamilton Farmers’ Market and its surroundings. The walks provide an opportunity for a group of people to listen together, to move slowly and attentively through a place noticing its sonic movements, and to talk about what they hear in this place and what these sounds tell us. Maximum 25 participants for a soundwalk. Each walk will be approx. minutes with a 5 min intro and 20-30 min discussion after. Approximate length of
sound walk is 45 minutes. Meet at the front doors at the main entrance at York Boulevard and MacNab Street.
Artist Biography – Andra McCartney
Andra McCartney is an associate professor of Communication Studies at Concordia University, Montreal, where she teaches courses in sound production, research creation, and sound theory. She is a soundwalk artist, leading public walks and creating gallery installations, recordings, performances and radio works. Her works can be heard on the internet, on CBC radio, and on CDs produced by Deep Wireless, Terra Nova, and the Canadian Electroacoustic Community.
