Presented in Partnership with the Hamilton Arts Council, Visual Arts Committee

Join us on Wednesday, January 17th at Hamilton Artists Inc. for a critique night facilitated by artist Claire Bartleman. This is an opportunity to share your artwork, offer feedback, learn how to self-critique and meet other artists in your community in a relaxed and supportive environment. Critique night is not medium specific and open to artists of all levels. Please register in advance and send a high-resolution image of the work you would like to discuss to programming@theinc.ca. RSVPs will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Claire Bartleman was raised in Montreal, Quebec where she graduated with distinction from Concordia University with a BFA in Art History (2007) and followed with BFA in Drawing and Painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design University (2015). Currently she is an MFA student at Western University where her practice focuses on textiles and soft sculpture.

Her work involves collecting unfinished textile-based crafts projects and recontextualizing them within the contemporary art world in order to engage with questions of failure, craft and Do-It-Yourself culture and the history of textile and feminist art. Positioning herself between the maker and the readymade, she looks to simultaneously acknowledge the skills of the craftswomen and that of the artist.
