Holiday Closure

- / The Inc.

Join us on Thursday July 25 from 6-8pm for a free workshop and zine launch facilitated by Hamilton-based artist Rulito (@rulitosdrawings)!

Fake Ads started as a small concept, a one-page pamphlet to give out for free at zine fairs and other events. The pamphlet contained a small collection of ads for fictitious products, and somewhere snuck inside, the artist's social media handle. Drawing those fake ads turned out to be quite fun, and little by little, the ad collection grew until there was enough material to put together a zine. At the Hamilton Artist Inc, said zine will be launched (and free copies will be given out) as part of a creative workshop. At the workshop we will become the creative team of a fake ad agency "The Hamilton Fake Ads Inc.", and through play, we will make ads for real, unreal and/or surreal goods and services.

We will be able to work on our own or as part of a group, and by the end of the workshop, the ads produced will be assembled into a new zine titled "more fake ads", which will be distributed to the attendees at a later date.

Rulito is a Hamilton based artist. His main practice is focused on making comics/zines, but he also likes to work on paintings (mainly using acrylics, watercolors, and india inks). His comics (and also his paintings) heavily feature anthropomorphic animals, and are mainly directed at criticizing late stage capitalism through humour. Recently he's also worked on a variety of collective comics and zines that have been printed and distributed through Canada. He's hosted a variety of artist themed meetups through the "Hamilton Comic Jam" and is very excited to facilitate a creative workshop / zine launch at the Hamilton Artist Inc. titled: Fake Ads.
