How to Draw a Soccer Ball - A Project by Micah Lexier for the Inc. on the Occasion of the Pan Am Games

How to Draw a Soccer Ball is a special project designed by Micah Lexier for the Hamilton Artists Inc. on occasion of the 2015 Pan Am games. The public was invited to participate in this community art project by drawing a soccer ball using a set of instructions Lexier provided. Over the course of the project, the Inc. collected nearly 800 drawings. A select number of these drawings were published in special insert of the Hamilton Spectator on July 25th, 2015. On October 9, Micah Lexier and Hamilton Artists Inc. are pleased to present the culmination of Lexier's participatory community based project, How to Draw a Soccer Ball in the form of a free, artist designed publication. Following this date, copies of the publication will be available at the gallery.

Micah Lexier is a Toronto-based artist, curator, and collector. He has a deep interest in measurement, increment, games, puzzles, found imagery, and the kinds of casual marks we make in our day-to-day lives. He has had over 100 solo exhibitions, participated in almost 200 group exhibitions and produced a dozen permanent public commissions, including the Sheppard and Leslie subway station in Toronto. Recent publications include I’m Thinking of A Number, a 30-year survey of Lexier’s ephemera, published by the Press of the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and Call Ampersand Response, a collaborative bookwork published this year by Zurich publisher Nieves. Lexier’s work is in numerous public and corporate collections including The British Museum (London, England), the Contemporary Art Gallery (Sydney, Australia), The National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa) and The Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto).
